Odds Alpha #10
Wow. Wow. Wow. We came so close to landing our biggest bet yet at the weekend, as Brooks Koepka came agonisingly close to picking up his first green jacket at the 2023 Masters. Sent off at around 40/1, Brooks had come off the back of a win in the controversial LIV Golf Series, which caused for a strange atmosphere during the opening hours of this year's tournament.
However, come Sunday afternoon, Koepka was leading by 3 shots. All he needed to do was shoot under par and he’d have been home and hosed. But he didn’t. Sadly for him, the Spaniard Jon Rahm was there to pick up the pieces, on what would have been Seve Ballesteros' 66th birthday (this must have given him added motivation!). Our 40/1 winner rapidly became an EW placed winner... however, we must look at the positives!
In our football selection last weekend (Arsenal vs. Liverpool), we also came very close to landing the spoils, had it not been for an uncharacteristic Mo Salah missed penalty. That said, we are now 10 winners and 1 placed win from our 21 selections on this blog, so we can move into this week with our heads held high.
Looking over at the crypto markets this week, we have seen some remarkable strength as Bitcoin managed to break through the $30,000 mark for the first time since June 2022. Although it dipped off that mark swiftly after, it has managed to maintain some strength under that mark as I write, which is a positive marker. Although ETH was slightly lagging the jump that Bitcoin made, it has held strong at around the $1900 mark. These are bullish signs for crypto at the moment. Let’s see where we go over the next few weeks, with 30k and 2k respectively being interesting points of resistance.
In the world of sport, my gaze is firmly drawn towards the Grand National this Saturday, one of horse racing's biggest event in the calendar. Although you won’t be able to bet via Housebets.io on this one, I am keen on the chances of Delta Work if you can find somewhere to have a bet. The Gordon Elliott trained horse was 3rd in the race last year and carries 1lb less this time. He had another faultless prep run at Cheltenham, victorious in the Cross Country Chase, and comes here with leading claims. Experience over the National fences always comes to the fore, so I am confident we'll see a good run from him on Saturday.
The Selection: Delta Work WIN @ 10/1

In the Premier League, both Manchester City and Arsenal will be looking to press on in their respective quests for the Premier League title. News that tickets for Arsenal’s final game are going for up to £10,000 is fascinating. Might the fans be getting carried away? Personally, I don’t think so. Arsenal have continued to pull out top performances this season when they have been doubted.
However, Man City is the team I am really interested in this weekend. They have stumped up no fewer than 24 goals in their last 5 games. They’re 2.64 to score 4 or more, which I think is a fantastic bet, especially after a convincing 3-0 victory against Bayern Munich last night.
The Selection: Manchester City total goals OVER 3.5

Elsewhere, in the Gallagher Premiership (Rugby), I think Sale Sharks pose an interesting bet in their away counter down at Bristol. They will be boosted by the return of Tom Curry and the news that Manu Tuilagi has signed another two year contract with the club. They are genuine title contenders and, with a strong side here, can get that challenge underway once more with the Six Nations now out of the way.
The Selection: Sale Sharks to WIN - 3.5 points
Details: 7.45pm on Friday 14th April

Wherever or whatever you are betting this weekend. The very best of luck from me!
